Yoga, Medicine, and dissolution of the Ego
Medicine is described as the science, or practice, of diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease; while all medicine comes from the Earth, there are natural forms as well as manufactured forms. Cannabis (THC and CBD) is a plant that has been sprouting from the Earth, all by itself, from as early as 500 B.C. Humanity has long been divided on Cannabis and the effect it has, but when paired with Yoga and Shamanic framework the medical value of cannabis is clear: it can be used as spiritual medicine. Does Moses and the burning bush sound familiar?
Any individual practicing yoga should understand our purpose in life: we were given the form of a body, guided by the direction of the mind, to carry one piece of our entire soul over a single lifetime. When Cannabis (THC) enters the body the perception of our ego (our identity that tends to steer the mind) turns from outward to inward. We become in tune with our Astral body as our senses become heightened, or hyper-aware, as our ego may feel vulnerable. As if a veil comes down, the cannabinoid compounds spread through our body, and while the ego is still there, it can appear muted, or reduced, while the feeling of “high” sets in. Depending on the strain of Cannabis (Indica, Sativa, or Hybrid), and the amount consumed, the dissolution of ego varies from person to person while the “high” lasts. An Indica dominant strain causes our mental identity to focus awareness upon the body, while a Sativa strain propels our awareness into the mental realms, and a hybrid can achieve a balance of both. CBD on the other hand, dissolves the ego while our awareness is focused outward, rather than inward like the effects of THC. CBD is known for it’s calming affects to release tension in our astral body which appears through the sensation of our physical bodies. CBD merely relaxes, there is no intensity, hence why CBD is legal while THC based cannabis has yet to make the leap.
Each ego is a piece of us, and as long as our spirit remains in this human body the ego will always appear with us; this is our humanity. To better understand our own individual ego, we can imagine similar cardboard boxes in a warehouse, while the size, shape, barcode on each box, or the wear and tear, is the uniqueness that sets each box apart. We are all carrying something valuable in our “box,” and even though our bodies are complicated, we each hold a piece of our light, some sort of potential; our vessel is only a unique set of traits that sets us apart from all the rest. This ego is an uniqueness, the mind’s interpretation of who we think we are, and I believe that repeated use of Cannabis can lower the ego-involved thoughts leading us to become more connected on an astral, energetic, and universal level. Once the feeling of “high” slowly fades, we notice our attention shifts back into our ego, away from our astral energy, as we perceive our surroundings in non-universal state. Many then go about our theirs lives in state that is separate from that our spirit while pursuing ego desires.
Other medicine can have profound effects upon the dissolution of the ego: LSD, Psilocybin (Magic Mushrooms), and DMT (inhaled) or Ayahuasca (DMT based tea). Each of these substances shifts our awareness differently, and can permanently alter our ego-identity, or even it destroy it before the ego grows anew. These substances should be used with caution, but there are also benefits to each. Each substance affects our awareness on different planes since we exist on many levels: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. Anyone under the influence of the substances stated above may understand how the brain has been discovered to become freed, or muted (ego and selfish desires) while an immersion connection to all beings may commence.

Although these substances have been misunderstood for ages, it’s best to do your own research before consumption. Peak experiences tend to happened in natural settings where our astral body finds a connection with the Earth, stars, sea, mountains, and air. Whether using Cannabis, or the substances listed above, it’s essential to make sure the body is properly fueled with hydration and food necessary for the body, or lack there of in some cases. The practice of yoga trains the body and mind to become still, or presently aware of this moment, and while the medicine listed above can also bring an individual to a state of “oneness,” only Yoga can get you there permanently.
